Overview of the Training Program

  • Nursing is a training program recognized nationwide in Germany, offered in nursing schools, hospitals, and care facilities. It combines theoretical and practical learning, lasting 3 years full-time or up to 5 years part-time, and concludes with a state final examination. If an in-depth specialization is agreed upon in the training contract, trainees can choose in the last third of their training to continue as a general nursing professional or redirect their training to qualify as a pediatric nurse or geriatric nurse. It is also possible to complete nursing training as part of a university degree.

  • During theoretical and practical lessons, you will learn:

  • How to act confidently in emergencies, such as providing first aid.
  • How to integrate patients into therapeutic processes, e.g., caring for chronic wounds.
  • How to assist individuals of all ages with congenital or acquired disabilities in restoring, compensating for, or adapting to limited abilities.
  • How to support people in critical life situations and in the last phase of life.
  • How to organize, design, and monitor nursing processes and diagnostics.
  • How to contribute to ensuring and improving the quality of nursing services.
  • The legal frameworks to consider when providing care.

Practical Training

  • Trainees receive a mandatory monthly salary:
  • Practical training deepens classroom knowledge and applies it in hospitals and inpatient or outpatient care facilities (e.g., nursing homes and nursing services).

  • Nursing school: Classrooms (theoretical teaching).
  • Hospitals and care facilities: Various medical departments (e.g., internal medicine, pediatrics), geriatric clinics, rehabilitation centers, and nursing homes.
  • Changing workplaces: During outpatient assignments (e.g., patient apartments).
